GREAT book!

As a newer paramedic I often found myself wishing I was better at differential diagnosis. Progressing through my career I've learned things through experience and sometimes wished I could learn more about diagnosing what's going on with my patients prior to coming across it in the field and just making an educated guess. This book is full of very good information about how very specific conditions will present to you. I purchased it to take the AMLS class and would definitely recommend not only this purchase, but the class to any EMS providers out there!

Humphrey Sheil is a lead developer and assessor for the SCEA exam covered in this book. With a background specializing in enterprise architecture and integration in the United States and Europe, he holds a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Computer Science from University College Dublin. He is currently the CTO at Comtec Group.

short focused guide to study

I read the Cade & Shiel study guide in preparation for the SCEA 5 exam. The book is short; only 189 pages; but contains a lot of info. What struck me was how little of the content was obscure. It serves as a good plan for studying/reviewing. I used it for reviewing since the content wasn't new. Most of the book covers the part 1 objectives along with sample multiple choice questions. The rest is for parts 2 and 3. I liked the notes about what differs in practice and the answer explanations about the exam creators think.

I didn't like the sample questions format. It was way too easy to see the correct answer while looking at the question making it difficult to see where you stand. It would have been nice to have them on a different page or in an appendix. Also, one of the answers was wrong. This is obvious from reading the answer explanation of course. I also felt the "background reading" sections were too thorough. It says the successful candidate must read the EJB spec. This is malarkey. The successful candidate must have a high level view of EJB rather than know every detail of the spec.

When I read the book, I thought the questions were too easy. After taking the exam, I can say they were spot on in difficulty. Overall, I do recommend the book. It served its purpose well - to be a concise guide to getting ready for the exam.

SCEA study guide Review

This is a very good guide for the SCEA 5.0 preparation. This doesn't have every detail of the topic but will definitely guide you for the exam and cover all the topics required for exam. After I attended SCEA exam step-1, this is my opinion about this book. if you are a person with 7+ yrs of experience in developing/designing J2EE applications buy this book, use it as guidance and refer to other materials for detail study. You should be able to clear the exam step-1 with one month of sincere preparation putting 3hrs on each day. In addition you can take the practice exam offered by SUN.

Small and concise

This is pretty much the Bible of the SCEA (now OCMJEA since Oracle bought Sun) Examination. It is a fairly small book when compared with most computer books. That's because it is strictly on the exam and does not go deeply into the background or theory. That's fair because the book and indeed the exam itself presumes that you have a few years of experience actually working in this area. It concentrates on the exam, what the exam is looking for, and the intent of the people giving it. You should be able to read the book fairly quickly with a bunch of 'Yup, I see what they are looking for here' thoughts.

Exposed, at last

I had no trouble downloading the book and have spent most of the morning reading it. Finally, Kate Gosselin is hoist on her own petard. The book is rough and could use some editing, but the strength of the book lies in the exposing of the web of lies and deceptions that are behind the popular "Jon & Kate + 8" show and the successor, "Kate + 8", most of it in Kate Gosselin's own, damning words. It contains entries from Kate's journals, detailing her chilling abuse of her toddler sextuplets, involving whippings with a wooden or plastic spoon and other violent punishments for behaviors typical of 2 year olds, such as potty training accidents, eating 3 M&M candies, and tantrums. Finally the reasons for the children being confined, unsupervised, for long periods of time in their cribs is made clear. The unraveling of the marriage is also detailed in, mostly, Kate's own words. Some of this has long been speculated on the various Gosselin fan and non-fan blogs, but the extent is far greater than many suspected. Hopefully now that light has been shed on the issues, help and better protection can be obtained for the 8 children.

I actually bought the book and am currently reading it. It is backed by FACTS. The author writes about Khate physically abusing her children, IN HER OWN WORDS. She is toast! Bye Bye turd...FLUSH!

A Must Read Book

Hoffman needs to be applauded for his diligence to make the book available. It was not easy for him. I understand Kate's lawyers tried to stop the book from being published because Kate did not want the truth exposed, but Hoffman took a lie detector test and passed it with flying colors...he is telling the truth. The book is casually written. It is mainly comprised of notes, emails and other dcumentation written by Kate herself. There is so much proof that Kate's private persona is far different than the one she presents to the public. The book reveals a lot more about Kate than what has already been published. It is not always pleasant reading. My heart is breaking about what those poor children have suffered. I highly recommend reading the book. Your eyes will be opened at what this woman is really about. In my opinion, she is a monster and makes Mommy Dearest look like an angel. I have come to the conclusion Kate is a sick woman who is obsessed with money and fame at the expense of everything else, including her precious children. She badly needs help. Also, let's not forget the primary message Hoffman is conveying in the book: he wrote it to HELP the children so people would finally know how badly they have been treated by their mother.

Worth the wait!

I have been waiting for this for months and months. I am sure I am not the only one. I was plensently surprised to find that the charaters in this book were not at all what I expected. LOVED IT ALL!!! No back to the waiting. I will definately be on the lookout for the next one!

“The depth of our love was immeasurable

“The depth of our love was immeasurable. It was the kind of love that stories were built on. The kind that, if bottled, would solve world peace, cure disease, and most likely overpopulate the earth.”

What an amazing follow up to Wait For Me. Stay With Me picks up right where the last book left off. Cooper and Briley are finally together and are enjoying their new relationship status. However, when a part of Briley’s past comes to light, it will take Cooper and Briley on a journey that no one expected. Will the love the two of them have be strong enough to get them past the dangerous road that lies ahead?

All I can say right now is just WOW! I am blown away! Stay With Me was such an amazing read. I was hooked from the first page and found myself consumed with Cooper and Briley. The love that they had for each other was real and strong. It captivated me. I admired their strength and devotion; the way they supported and protected one another. I felt such a connection to them. I couldn’t get enough of their story. I didn’t want to put this book down.

Stay With Me was not only a great romance, but it also had it’s fair share of twists and turns. And let me tell you, these twists…..I am just floored. This book went into a totally different direction than what I was expecting. I was so surprised and I kept thinking to myself: I did not see this coming. I would have never guessed this would be happening in a million years. It had me holding my breath just waiting to see how everything would play out. And in the end, I thought to myself: Bravo! Well done!

I loved every second of this story from start to finish. Stay With Me gave me the best possible ending to this series. It took me on one heck of an emotional journey. I laughed, held my breath, had tears brought to my eyes and I swooned all at the same time. These characters are amazing and their story will capture your heart, just like it did mine.

I love this book, so much!

Okay, Wait for Me is the first book in the series. If you have read the first book in this series, you have to read the second (Stay With Me). If you haven't read either, you should really get on that! In Wait for Me, we met Briley and Cooper. They have always been best friends since they were little kids. Cooper goes away to prison and when he gets out all of their feelings for each other finally come to light.

Going into Stay With Me I thought this book would be about their happily ever after since they finally come together at the end of Wait for Me. Only the story was so much more than what I expected. Of course Briley and Cooper's life can't always be butterflies and unicorns. Briley's past holds a secret that has been kept from her to keep her safe. Briley can't ignore the feeling that something is not right. Cooper, the protector that he is, investigates and discovers dangerous information...

Stay With Me kept me on the edge of my seat. I did not want to put it down. There were so many twists and turns I didn't see coming. I love this author, her writing style, and this couple. Sequels are hard live up to the quality of the first book and, in my opinion, Stay with Me surpassed Wait for Me. Stay with Me is my favorite book of the series, but Wait for Me has my favorite cover. Cooper is still my favorite book boyfriend

A valuable book on the current situation in education and what needs to be done to improve it.

The Global Achievement Gap by Tony Wagner is another in a series of recent books that present a critical view of American education. What Wagner and others decry is the failure of schools to teach what he calls “survival skills,” namely such things as critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork. Wagner is described on the back cover of the book as an “Expert in Residence at Harvard University’s Innovation Lab.” He claims that there are two achievement gaps in our education systems. The first is the gap between the quality of schooling that most middle-class students get and the quality available to poor and minority children. The second gap, and the one that is the primary focus of the book, is the global gap between even what our best schools are teaching and testing and what all students need to succeed as workers, learners and citizens in today’s global knowledge economy.

Wagner posits seven “survival skills” that he says are necessary. These include:
1. Critical thinking and problem solving
2. Collaboration across networks
3. Agility and adaptability
4. Initiative and entrepreneurship
5. Effective oral and written communication
6. Accessing and analyzing information
7. Curiosity and imagination.

He discusses these shortcomings in detail and gives many examples. He states that there is an overemphasis on testing which leads teachers to teach to the test. Another problem is that the training future teachers get in education schools is not adequate to what is needed.

This book is very valuable for parents, students and anyone interested in education—both in the United States and globally. It not only provides specific examples, it also gives sources and organizations that you can contact.

Thinking About What's Missing in Our American Schools

First published in 2008, this edition contains updates from 2010 and 2014, which I found most interesting. After identifying seven survival skills all students must know to be successful participants in the workplace and community and giving examples of good schools, Tony Wagner relates what has happened in our schools since. Not much. Not enough. Praises for the school initiatives which strive to keep up with the changing times, but leaving our public schools in the dust. Good things are happening, but not enough. This book is insightful, and easy to read, for anyone who wants to better understand where the gaps currently exist in our education system, and what still needs to be done.

I love how this book addresses the importance of critical thinking, communication, creativity, innovation to name a few in education. Standardized testing is out of control and this Harvard man hits the nail on the head about what is wrong with schools.

The late Cheng Man-ch'ing was an international authority on T'ai Chi and wrote two earlier books on the topic.

My paper copy was falling apart, so I got the digital version.

I practice this specific style of Tai Chi. This book is the one that I have used for 20 years to remind me what I am supposed to be doing. There are pictures with each posture, though in the e-book mode, often they are on the next page or the previous page - not the author's fault, just a casualty of the e-book age. The steps of the Yang Style, short form, are here. The exact steps are here. Do this. Then do that. Then put your hand here. This is, often, what I need to be reminded what I learned, or what I should have learned.

There are other books about the various styles of Tai Chi, there are videos on YouTube, DVD's galore: For me, this book is a must-have for my Tai Chi e-bookshelf: I do this form. He wrote the book! All I have to do, is do it!

Can a book teach Tai Chi?

I'm not sure how to rate a book like this--since it is trying to teach on a static page what is essentially a three-dimensional flow. I also have the Tai Ci Ch'uan Yang Style from Peaceful Dragon (1993). You might think a video would make learning it easier but I find that I need both--the written word and visual to understand. Oh, and I am taking a class.

Don't be put off by the publication date but do be aware it will take concentration to learn anything from this book.

But then you didn't expect Tai Chi to be quick, did you?

One of the best books on taijiquan

This book, like Zheng's 37 posture form itself, is accurate, concise, and filled with qi (ch'i).

It was one of the first good English language books on taijiquan (t'ai chi ch'uan) and contains history, philosophy, the form, and sensing hands applications. It also has an interesting 'mirror image' format to the pictures, and a diagram of the locations of each posture in the form.

It is well known that anything Robert W. Smith writes on martial arts is gold. When combined with Zheng's taijiquan, that gold turns to diamond!
