Lots of pieces of your brain

This book, although now quite dated serves a good portion of food for your brain. Essasys look at different aspects of science fiction from writing technique, story telling and at a few unknown authors.
I usually find most theory books dull, and a chore to read through. But as I am an avid Science Fiction reader I found almost all the essays approachable. Many books I've read were discussed and so opened new doors to me for re-reading them. Discussing Science Fiction in a literary fashion should help to promote the cause that Science Fiction is real fiction.
Work such as the creation of new words in British Science fiction, the role of Utopia, and so on. Each is written by a different author and are usually well footnoted and researched.
If you're a Science Fiction fan, but don't enjoy reading theory books, this one might surprise you.

Justo Miranda is the author of books and monographs on aviation since the 1980s. A widely known historian, Miranda specialises in aviation of the 1930s and is the author of two volumes on aircraft used during the Spanish Civil War. A great book for all Luft"46 nuts !

I knew about Justo Miranda long ago as he was responsible for the amazing Reich Dreams series of books( amongst many other books) If you know of the Reich Dreams series of books you'll be well aware that Justo Miranda is a force to be reckoned with in the Luft"46 elite.
His outstanding technical drawings of the Luft"46 projects are probably the best in their genre. Mr Miranda had a book out about German rockets and missiles a few years back which is well worth seeking out. This latest offering from Mr Miranda is yet another look at the German flying wings. The book contains numerous technical drawings and just as much writing that enlightens the reader to a deeper understanding. It's a fascinating history of fanciful ideas, some of which helped the Allies leap decades forward in flight. I will say you need to be interested in the Luft"46 genre to really get most from these books( there is a just as excellent second volume on piston fighter projects) and really enjoy them.
I bought both volumes to expand my already huge library on Luft "46 collection.
I have a feeling these books will not be around long and become extremely rare and expensive in the near future.

This book specializes in the flying wings, and is loaded with fascinating data and information regarding the Luftwaffe's most radical wing-based fighter and bomber projects. Profusely illustrated with technical drawings considered by many--myself included--to be the best in their genre, this latest book by Justo Miranda does not disappoint and is entirely worth the high cost in my opinion. My only criticism of the book is that there are not artist depictions of the planes as they might have appeared in the service of the Third Reich. It might have been nice to have colorized paintings of these concept planes in action over war-torn Europe, but this is just my opinion. The overleaf of this book contains an excerpt of a prescient story by H.G.Wells written in 1933 and titled, 'The Shape of Things to Come.' The inclusion of this thought-provoking excerpt by Justo Miranda is relevant in that H.G. Wells painted an astonishingly accurate picture of future military aviation and even predicted the beginning of the Second World War--give or take three months! The Nazi regime realized too late the importance and strategic value of Flying Wings and only began construction of these planes in early 1945. Thus, only one of the Horten Wing fighters was able to take to the skies in what was to be its first and last test flight. This book began with a lengthy chapter describing the emergence of what would later be coined 'stealth' technology. With respect to aviation, it began in the First World War with clever camoflage paint schemes and patterns, later evolving into the complexities of nascent radar technology which profoundly influenced aviation design during the Second World War. The book concludes with an interesting treatise of the future of the Flying Wings, many of which are being designed and implemented into the United States Air Force in the 21st century. We need only look at the latest American bombers and fighter planes to understand the far-reaching legacy of the German Horten brothers and their revolutionary designs. I enjoy reading books like this because I have an active imagination and often contemplate alternate histories. This book will not be in print indefinitely, so I highly recommend its purchase before it becomes a rarity and its price skyrockets upward. Not just for Luft '46 enthusiasts, this book has something for anyone interested in the past, present, and--yes--the future of military aviation. I am also an avid modeler and this is one of my favorite books to have as a handy reference.

Superb, with lots of excellent technical drawings. It is amazing to me how many German manufactures understood the need for swept back wings. Heck, even the boat builders (Blohm & Voss) designed high speed aircraft. It is a good thing these flying wings were never produced in time. If I was a Billionaire, some of these would be built.
