Life As I Have Known It Has Been Finger Lickin Good

Ok, so I will admit that I was hoping there would be the secret herbs and spices blend hidden somewhere in this book. Or even some kind of recipe. But alas, there wasn't. But it was still interesting and considering Mr. Sanders himself wrote it at 83 years of age and having only a 6th grade education, it was a pretty good book.

Sanders describes his entire life from when he was a boy and left home at the age of twelve, all the way up through the time that he is writing the book. He seems to drift through jobs, never staying any place long, and did a lot of work on the railroads and also selling insurance. It actually wasn't until he was in his sixties that he really buckled down and got the chicken thing going. Which is where the book turned the most interesting as he describes how he franchised and ran the business and developed his methods for cooking chicken. I never knew they used pressure cookers to cook the chicken until now and it really explains how they can cook it so fast.

Sanders is a pretty persnickety guy and he makes sure you know it in this book. Of course he's also somewhat of a braggart and makes sure you know just who he influenced or how much he gave to charity. But I guess at 83 if you want to brag its as good a time as any. And he did do a lot of good with his life. His biggest flaw, although not really seen in the book, is his cussing it would seem. He reiterates several times that he has a pretty foul mouth. And he also likes to preach quite a bit as he has a distinct relationship with God in his mind.

The book could have greatly used an editor to be more reader friendly (or a better one if it already had one). Sanders wrote just how he spoke more than likely and it is seen in the way his stories meander back and forth and how he gets off track. And if you read it out loud it would sound very much like regularly speech when you're telling a story to a friend. There were some details that were probably superfluous, but others that really gave an example of just how amazing his life was. I only wish he would have wrote more about his immediate family, they seemed to take a back burner to the stories strictly about him.

Still an interesting read of a unique fellow who had a way with chicken. I'll have to smile a little next time I step into a KFC and see his picture.

Fascinating Story

This is a great story Colonel Sanders writes about his very interesting life.

He was a sixth grade drop-out who later worked as a fireman, railroad worker, lawyer and delivered babies among other things. His business sense was remarkable, he worked his way through the depression and seemingly never stood still long.

I have so much admiration for this incredible man and the events and adventures that helped shape him.

Worth every penny

This is, without question, the best oncology nursing drug book I have ever seen. I find it an invaluable resource in my role as a chemo nurse. Opening the book to learn about a drug is faster and simpler than going to a computer program and hunting for the information I need. It has the information I need in exactly the format I need it in.

Probably the BEST book I've ever read

In over three decades of my life...I have not read a book I've enjoyed more. This is incredible writing, research and wisdom. I learned more about human nature that I thought one could know. This author does an amazing job. I feel like I'm THERE. The story is as good as a fiction read; and because it's true, you'll be blown away. Whatever you think about the topic (I had no interest in politics or these women), read it. You'll get sucked in. I read the nearly 1000 page book in a week. I could NOT put it down.
You will learn some heart-stopping secrets about them and JFK too in this book. Other books about them were often edited BY them and approved. This author, however, has access to the best information but NO Kennedy had any say in what he put in or left out. Be prepared to enjoy the ride.

Kennedy Women Strength

I ordered this book because I am writing another novel and I wanted to get a good feeling of politically astute societal women through time. I found myself vacillating between pity and envy for the lives of the Kennedy women.
The men they each chose seemed to be so self absorbed, yet missing the value of the women who supported them. The book has given me some great ideas for enhancing the personalities of some of the characters in my new book.
Thank you for the inspiration and for giving me a glimpse behind closed doors.

Kennedy Women Through The Years

This is a very thorough account of multiple generations of Kennedy women, staring with Bridget Murphy who sailed to America from Ireland and became the first Kennedy woman to live in this country. While the book is long, I never found it boring. Each generation has their own fascinating story to tell and I liked how the author flipped between different women every few paragraphs or so. I think that is why the book held my attention for so long. One minute the author would discuss Pat's life in California among movie stars, and the next, talking about Jackie's tenure as First Lady. Highly recommended for Kennedy fans.

A classic that is still very much worth reading

First, let me state the obvious - since Kuhn is talking about the philosophy of science, this is not light reading. That said, this book is as relevant as it was when it was first published - perhaps more so. Kuhn makes a well-reasoned argument that science is not an objective search for "truth," as many people believe. Instead, "normal science" is a problem solving endeavor, solving known problems by known methods. Science only changes the rules by which it operates (its "paradigm" - that over-used and often misused term in contemporary language) only when the current paradigm causes more problems than it solves. This is the real answer to any from any field who say, "The science is settled. There is no room for discussion." Those who make that statement need to re-read Kuhn and come to grips with the reality that all knowledge is inevitably socially constructed. If you read this in graduate school, it is worth revisiting. If you have never read it and you are ready for some deep thinking, dive in. You will find your horizons expanded, and that is a good thing.

His English is too good to be comprehensible

Is it just me or I can find some resonance in other readers that his English is just "too good" to be comprehensible? I haven't finished his book yet, so I might come back and raise my rating for his book, if I find it really enlightening. However, his writing style is just unnecessarily difficult to follow. There're way too many long sentences with multiple clauses, and the usage of words is just too exotic when simpler words can serve the purpose. Sometimes I feel like he's showing off his vocabulary and mastery of grammar. As a PhD myself in social science, I find most of the academic papers more accessible and easier to follow than his book.

One of the most important books on science of the 20th Century and worth the work of reading it

This is a classic, influential book in the field of the philosophy of science. I read it in 1966, when it was revolutionizing our understanding of science by introducing the notion of "scientific paradigms." I'm reading it now again and getting even more out of it.

I'm glad I'm getting a lot out of it because it's a hard read. Dry and with long, complex sentences that are a little too abstract for me. Fortunately, Kuhn includes a number of good examples from discoveries in physics and chemistry. Being familiar with these examples is key to helping me understand Kuhn's concepts. So, I Google the discoveries as needed.

I highly recommend this book as it gives much more understanding of how scientists work and what their results mean. I wish more people had the kind of understanding of the scientific method that one gets from this book.
